The weekend before Lincoln Center opens its first multiplex, the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, there'll be an orgy of freebies! So many choices—like a marathon of classic New York Film Festival openers, from Ran to Pulp Fiction. (Together again?!) I'll be checking out a tribute to the trailer-maker Merv Bloch, Paul Schrader's film class on Bertolucci's The Conformist (pictured), and the lecture by neurologist Antonio Damasio on why we respond to what we see onscreen. I became a critic to figure that one out; maybe what I needed was an MRI.
