Join the Fight Against Domestic Violence
One hot, DC summer day, a woman sits down to lunch with a friend she hasn't seen in years, who immediately spots the heavy makeup on her face and her puffy, bloodshot eyes and asks what happened. Suddenly, the memories of all the nasty fights, the secrecy, the lies come flooding back and she realizes that her relationship is not only unhealthy, but dangerous.

The acknowledgement of domestic violence is only the beginning of the path back to self-acceptance and empowerment. Many cases of domestic violence are not as obvious as black eyes or broken bones, but deal with crippling self-doubt and isolation from family and friends through manipulative tactics designed to assert power and control.

Becky's Fund is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Washington, DC that focuses on the education and prevention of dating and domestic violence. Becky's Fund aims to educate the younger generation of men and women to give them the power to recognize unhealthy relationships from the beginning and to prevent the cycle of violence from starting, while also assisting survivors in finding shelters, pro bono attorneys, financial independence and support groups.

On October 4th, Becky's Fund will host its 4th annual Walk This Way Charity Fashion Event at Kastles Stadium at the Wharf in Southwest DC.

In this unique and thrilling fundraiser, professional athletes, including the Capitals' John Carlson, Karl Alzner, Mathieu Perreault, Redskins' DeAngelo Hall, Lorenzo Alexander, Kedric Golston, Reed Doughty, Brandon Banks, Gary Clark, DC United's Ben Olsen, Chris Pontius and several others will come out to take a public stand against domestic violence.

Co-hosted by Comcast Sportsnet's Julie Donaldson and NBC4's Dan Hellie, this fashion event will highlight the importance of collaboration between sports, fashion, and the media through the power of community outreach to raise awareness of dating and domestic violence.

DC Scout's editor and producer Dominique Vu is honored to be a member of the host committee for the 4th annual Walk This Way Charity Fashion Event. Please join us as we stand up against dating and domestic violence this October!
