On which 90210 co-star she’d date: “I am so madly in love with my own man that I don't even know how to answer that! I've been with my guy Luke [Grimes] for a while now. But if I had to answer, I'd have to say Jessica Stroup.”

On her one wardrobe item she’ll keep forever: “My grandfather's bowler hat. I wear it all the time. Probably too much. It's like my safety blanket.”

On being different than her 90210 character: “We're all incredibly different girls and that's part of the pleasure of acting. You're never going to be cast for something that you're not right for because you're always bringing a huge part of yourself to every role. But I agree that there is a 'type' in Hollywood and I don't see myself in that bracket. I'm simply an actor who is in Los Angeles for work, and I keep my personal life quite separate to work. I live in a small bungalow by the beach and I think there's something to be said for not having to run around town and be on show.”

On his marriage to Nicole Kidman: "Negativity and doubt are always creeping into my life and having to be kept at bay. Thankfully, Nic is great at calling me on it, and our marriage is at the stage where she doesn't have to say anything. I hear myself prattling on with negative crap and her loaded silence shuts me up."

On mentoring on Australia’s The Voice: "The best thing about it has been the chance for people in Australia to get to know me. My music doesn't really get played here despite it having a lot of appeal elsewhere, so I've found myself without an outlet for my songs because of various narrow stereotypes and perceptions about me. That's been a challenge. But The Voice has offered me an opportunity to connect in a different way and I hope now people check out the gigs because that's the real show for me… and it ain't played on a planet of 10-gallon hats."

On the future: "The creative flow is taking me down a new path, past the excruciating blankness of the empty page, to somewhere fresh where singing songs and playing guitar is fun – pure and simple."

On the notion of being famous: “I really don't like this notion that some people are more important than other people. These stories about these elevated people called 'celebrities' teaches you that what you have to say doesn't matter. It's degrading.”
