James Franco attends the opening for his MOCA Los Angeles exhibition, Rebel, on Saturday (May 12) in Los Angeles.

The 34-year-old actor and director put together the exhibit, which pays homage to James Dean‘s film Rebel Without a Cause, with help from artists Terry Richardson, Ed Ruscha, Harmony Korine, Paul McCarthy, Damon McCarthy, and more.

“[The exhibition] is an extension of the film. It’s not about being loyal to it, as much as it is using the film as a source for inspiration and building off that to create new work,” James told the LA Times.

James Franco goes shirtless in drag for these new pics displayed in his “Rebel” art exhibit held at JF Chen Antiques on Saturday (May 12) in Hollywood.

The whole exhibit, which was inspired by the classic film Rebel Without a Cause, was modeled after the Chateau Marmont. Each “bungalow” was a different installation.

The photos were shot by Terry Richardson for a cover feature in Candy magazine’s Fall-Winter 2010-2011 issue.

“I found James Dean movies when I was a kid. I remember riding bikes with friends under a graffiti filled underpass in Palo Alto and asking them if they’d seen Rebel Without a Cause. It was cool, I said,” James recalls about the man he played in James Dean.
