The three memoirists speaking tonight at Housing Works have each had more than their fair share of harrowing experience: Alan Kaufman, author of Jew Boy and Drunken Angel, the child of a Holocaust survivor and a former soldier suffering from PTSD and alcohol addiction; Elizabeth Wurtzel, author of Prozac Nation, a victim of depression and an abuser of pills; and Mary Karr (pictured), author of The Liars' Club and Lit, the product of a troubled childhood and a former lover of the late David Foster Wallace.
