While he may be best recognized as Ricky Gervais's feckless (and very tall) agent on Extras—a show he wrote and co-created with Gervais, along with the original U.K. Office—Stephen Merchant was once a stand-up comic. And though he's never been much of a silent partner, for two nights in New York, Merchant is stepping out of Gervais's shadow in first–ever comedy tour, where he plans to expose his ineffectualness and ineptitude with the opposite sex. In other words, he's going to prove why he's won all those Emmys and Golden Globes.
