It's a little bit of a mystery why the Alexander McQueen exhibit by the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute took off as it did. Was it his recent death, his almost universal canonization in the fashion world, or simply the mad, exuberant joy of his designs? Whatever the reason, the show is pushing attendance to a record level, and the Met has—smartly and swiftly—lengthened its run by a week, sold premium-priced tickets for Mondays when the museum's otherwise closed, and extended its hours to as late as midnight, allowing you a chance to (just maybe) see those lobster-claw shoes without shouldering your way through a sweaty crowd.
