The whole idea of a supergroup (think Damn Yankees, Blind Faith, unchecked ego, unnecessarily long solos, cocaine) seems to go against every grain of traditional indie-punk ethics. Well, damn the preconceptions, Wild Flag is coming to town. Starring three members of two of the wiriest and fiercest bands of the nineties —Sleater-Kinney and Helium—Wild Flag takes both the fury and twisting guitar interplay of those bands and filters it through a mid-sixties garage-psych haze, even adding handclaps and Nuggets-style organ. They're likely to blow headliners Sonic Youth offstage, so don't be late.
